Sze Gee is a flutist & flute teacher based in Klang Valley area. She is currently the flute lecturer at National Academy of Arts Culture and Heritage (ASWARA), and copy editor at Malaysian Journal of Music (MJM).
Sze Gee is actively involved in both performing arts and education scene in Malaysia. Her lessons includes a balance of theory and practical approaches, music reading, playing techniques, embouchure, breath control, phrases shaping, emotions approaches, articulations, fingering techniques, musicianship skills, music history and everything else you need to know to play the flute.
As an orchestral instrument, playing flute is not only about playing it alone, but ensemble techniques are important too, ensemble tips and listening tricks is included as a part of her teaching routine. Check out the videos she recorded with her student!
Her passion in music education, especially in flute teaching urge her to adjust the way of delivering based on student’s background and progression. For example, it will be stress free for working adult; a step by step approach for kids; and a strict/detailed approach for music major students.
Results speak louder than words, Sze Gee’s students were accepted into tertiary institution to further study in music, and also received high scorer award from Trinity College London for excellent performance in graded examination. Qualifications/Achievements Highlight:
- Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Music Performance at Sultan Idris Education University, currently pursuing.
- Master of Music in Performance Studies, flute major (UCSI University). Completed the program with scholarships award.
- Bachelor Degree (HONS) in Music Performance, flute major (National Academy of Arts, Cultural and Heritage). Final year best student, graduated with Rector’s award.
- Diploma in classical music, flute major (Malaysian Institute of Art).
- Licentiate Trinity College London Diploma, flute recital at the age of 19.
- Flute Grade 8 at the age of 18.
- Flute lecturer of National Academy of Arts, Cultural and Heritage (ASWARA) since 2021.
- Copy editor of Malaysian Journal of Music.
- 1st Prize with 98/100 High Score at World Art Games International Art Media Contest (Spain) 2021.
- Gold Award winner for both solo and ensemble category at MIVBC 2021.
- Member of Malaysian Philharmonic Youth Orchestra (MPYO) season 2020-current.
- Gold award and highest score winner for Malaysian Institute of Arts Young Musician Competition 2019 (open category).
- Principal flutist/piccoloist of KLPAC Symphonic Band 2016-current.
- Founder/leader of Asteri Flute Quartet.
- Represented Malaysia to participate in the International Symposium and ASEAN Youth Ensemble held in Bangkok, Thailand (2016).
